RESPIRATION

6.0. INTRODUCTION

All groups of living organisms require energy to perform all the metabolic processes such as digestion, thinking, walking etc that takes withintheir bodies. This energy is obtained from the breakdown of the product of digestion- glucose, fatty acids, glycerol, amino acids etc

6.1. WHAT IS RESPIRATION

Respiration is the biological processes by which glucose or other product of digestion are broken down to provide energy in the form of ATP ( Adenosisne Triphosphate) for metabolic processes. This process takes place in special organs called the respiratory system.

6.2. IMPORTANCE OF RESPIRATION

Respiration helps in providing energy for all metabolic processes such as excretion, reproduction, thinking, walking etc that are taking place in living organisms.

6.3. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

The respiratory system is a system comprising of tissues and organ through which energy in the form of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate ) is provided in the body. The respiratory system comprised of the following parts:

  1. Nasal Cavity
  2. Pharynx/Larynx
  3. Trachea/Broncheal tree
  4. Lungs

6.4. PHYSIOLOGY OF RESPIRATION
