Calculation with Functions

A function is a formula that has been placed in Excel from the manufacturer or Programmer.  Common functions in Excel:

  1. Sum:  Adds all cells in the argument
  2. Average:  Calculates the average of the cells in the argument
  3. Min:  Finds the minimum value
  4. Max:  Finds the maximum value
  5. Count:  Finds the number of cells that contain a numerical value within a range of the argument

Entering Data into excel worksheet

 Below using any of the above functions, you have enter the data into the excel cells. You can use two methods to enter data into excel. These methods are:

  1. Using the active cell
  2. Using the formula bar

1. Using the active cell

You can enter data into excel cell using the active cell by employing the following strategies:

Step 1

Place your mouse pointer into the cell you want the data to be inserted and Click.

Step 2

Type in the cell as in the picture below


2. Using the formula bar

You can enter data into excel cell using the formula bar by employing the following strategies:

Step 1

Place your mouse pointer into the cell you want the data to be inserted and Click.

Step 2

Place the cursor in the Formula Bar and type in your data. This process is presented in the picture below.
