CHAPTER NINE

BASIC COMPUTER OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS  COMPUTER HARDWARE: CONNECTORS AND CABLES

 Performance Objectives.

By the end of this unit the students should be able to:

a. Lists connectors and cables

b. Define connectors and cables

UNIT ONE: COMPUTER HARDWARE- CONNECTORS AND CABLES

9.1. CONNECTORS AND CABLES

Computers used different types of cables or connectors to link the computer mother board with other peripherals such as the mouse, keyboard, printers, etc. the most common cables used are:

      1. VGA monitor cable

        1.  Keyboard cable-Parallel serial keyboard cable
        2.  Parallel serial printer cable
        3.  USB cable
        4.  Data cables
        5.  SATA power cable

9.1.1.  VGA monitor cable

VGA stands for Video Graphics Array. VGA connects computer monitors to the mother board on the sysytem unit. The cable is used for transmiiting video signals from the motherboard to the computer monitor. Below is the picture of VGA cable.

9.1.2. Keyboard cableParallel serial printer cable

The keyboard cable connects the keyboard to the motherboard in the system unit. Below is the picture of Keyboard cable.

9.1.3. Parallel serial printer cable

Parallel serial printer cable connects the printer to the motherboard. Below is the picture of the parallel serial printer cable

9.1.4. USB cable

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. USB connects computers to peripheral devices such as printers, keyboards, digital cameras, digital projectors etc. below is the picture of USB cable.

9.1.5. Data cables

Data cables are found inside the system unit. Data cables transmit data between the CPU and different parts of the computer. Normally, data cables are flat and have internal wires.  Below is the picture of data cable.

9.1.6. SATA power cable

The SATA power cable transfer electrical signal between the pwer pack and computer motherboard. The picture below is the SATA cable connector.
