UNIT ONE: COMPUTER SOFTWARE
10.1. TYPES OF SOFTWARE'S
Basically, there are four types of computer software's. These are:
10.1.1. Operating system
10.1.2. Application
10.1.3. Utility
10.1.4. Translation/ programming
10.1.1. WHAT IS OPERATING SYSTEM?
Operating system soft ware is the software that is installed on a computer right from the manufacturing company. It is the first software install on any computer.
10.1.2.1. Functions
of the functions of the operating system are:
1. Operating system software serves as the foundation on which all subsequent software's are built.
2. It is a system program that monitors, controls and coordinates all activities on the computer.
3. Allocate resources to the different sectors of the computer.
10.1.1.2. Examples of operating systems
Some of the common operating system are:
- MS-DOS
- Macintosh
- Windows- Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7
- Linux
- Ubuntu
- Android
10.1.2. APPLICATION SOFTWARE
Application softwares are softwares used for particular purposes- e.g drawing, calculations, diagnosis, scanning etc
