EXCRETORY SYSTEM 6.0. INTRODUCTION All groups of living organisms produce certain materials after several metabolic processes. Some of such materials are useful to the body while some will be harmful to it. The harmful materials-metabolic products have to be removed from the body. Living them in the body will destroy the body. Some of harmful substances produced are carbon dioxide, product of respiration, urea, product of the broking down of excess amino acids by he liver etc 6.1. WHAT IS EXCRETION Respiration is the biological processes by which waste metabolic products such as carbon dioxide, urea are eliminated from the body. Excretion takes place by special organs called the excretory system. 6.2. IMPORTANCE OF EXCRETION The excretory system helps in: 1. Regulating the concentration of water and other components of body fluids. 2. Homeostasis- the ability of the body or a cell to seek and maintain stability within its internal environment when dealing with external changes
6.3. EXCRETION SYSTEM The excretory system is a system comprising of tissues and organ through which eliminates waste metabolic products from the body. The are different excretory system in vertebrates. Some of the important excretory systems are:
