1.2. WHAT IS OLD ECONOMY?

The old economy can be considered as the old, ancient, 18th century economy, which prevailed before the availability of computers, telecommunication gadgets and the internet. Most of the developing countries such as Nigeria, Brazil, India etc are still operating in the old economy.
The economic activities of the old economy comprised of the production, sales ofgoods such as soap, household provisions, textiles, oil, bakeries, steel andautomobile.

1.2.1. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE OLD ECONOMY

The basic features of the old economy are:
1.2.1.1. Labor based
1.2.1.2. Mechanical

1.2.1.1. Labor based

Manufacturing activities were undertaking by machines, control or manage byanimal power or human power. This made the manufacturing processes slow, tasking, difficult, tedious and ineffective.

1.2.1.2. Mechanical

The factories use for the production of goods and services during the old economy are mechanically operated- by machines.
