CHAPTER THREE

BASIC COMPUTER OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS

3.1.4.1. Accuracy

Computers execute their activities with accuracy and precision, if the correct inputs are given to them. However, if wrong instructions are fed into them, then wrong outputs will certainly be received.

 3.1.4.2. Reliability

Computers are reliable gadgets because they make no mistakes or errors in course of performing their functions. Similarly, they store information for long period without the information destroyed or distorted.

3.1.4.3. Versatility

Computers are versatile equipment's. They can perform a variety of functions, ranging from calculations, writing, playing music, playing games, monitoring, and simulation to drawing.

3.1.4.4. Speed

Computers perform their operations for instance calculations at great speed. A microcomputer can perform millions of calculations in less than one second and over and over again without any mistake.

3.1.4.5. Storage (memory)

Computers have the capacity to store large amount of data for long period. Such information can be retrieved anytime and anywhere.

3.1.4.6. Automation

Computers can be programmed to performed series of activities involving different programs over a long period. Such programs can be executed in sequence as programmed without any mistake or error. This means you can electronically tell the computer to do certain things for you - washing clothes, processing payment of money, movement of equipment in the factory e.g. robots etc.

 3.1.4.7. Data analysis/ Data processing

Computers are used for the processing, analyzing and storing data. For example, sales of a product; student results can be processed and stored on a computer.
