BUCCAL CAVITY

  1. First region of digestion
  2. Contains, the teeth, tongue and the  Salivary glands: saliva lubricates food.
  3. Both mechanical, chemical digestion

The teeth helps in the mechanical destruction of the food.
The tongue rolls the food
The salivary gland produces saliva, which contains an enzyme, SALIVARY AMYLASE.
Salivary amylase digest starch into glucose.
The food is converted into a bolus and transported down the esophagus
