THE TONGUE

The tongue is a muscular organ found in he mouth. Occupies the floor of the mouth. Fills most of the oral cavity when the mouth is closed.

Functions of the tongue.

Some of the functions of the tongue are:

  1. During chewing, it grips the food and repositions the food between the teeth.
  2. Mixes the food with saliva and forms a compact mass called a bolus.
  3. Initiates swallowing by pushing the bolus posteriorly into the pharynx.
  4. Helps us form consonants when we speak
