1.2. BRANCHES OF ANATOMY.

Anatomy is divided into several sections namely:

  1. Gross anatomy
  2. Regional anatomy
  3. Systemic anatomy

1. GROSS ANATOMY

Gross anatomy is the study of the visible and the invisible parts of the body. This divided into two:

a. Macroscopic anatomy

b. Microscopic anatomy

a. Macroscopic anatomy

Microscopic anatomyis the study of the visible parts of the body such as the internal components of the cells that are found in the body. E.g Observing the structure of a human being standing infront of you.

b. Microscopic anatomy

Microscopic anatomyis the study of the unvisible parts of the body such as the internal components of the cells that are found in the body. E.g Histology, study of the tissues and cytology the study of the cells.

REGIONAL ANATOMY

Regionalanatomyis the study of the anatomical structures in a region of the body. For instance anatomical study of the foot region. This may entail studying the various relationships between the organs, tissues of that region. E.g. The nerves, blood vessels and the muscles of the foot.

SYSTEMIC ANATOMY

Systemic anatomy is the study of the systems in the body.  E.g Cardiovascular system, the respiratory system.
