Students should be able to:

  1. Use the search engine to obtain information and download materials on the internet to use the internet to browse
  2. Open an email address
  3. Send and receive e-mail
  4. Chat on the internet
  5.  Link up with a network of educational institutions in different parts of the world.

UNIT ONE: - USING THE INTERNET TO OBTAIN INFORMATION

6.1. USING THE INTERNET- BROWSING

6.1.1. BROWSING

Browsing is the strategy use for searching for information on the internet. To be able to browse effectively on the internet, you must possess the basic computing skills.

6.1.2. HOW TO BROWSE (SEARCH FOR INFORMATION) THE INTERNET

The steps to be employed to search browse (search for information) are:

  1. You should know the subject or topic you want find information on.
  2. You should know the web site address of the source of the information you are looking for. E.g. www.corjalingo.org
  3. Alternatively, you can use specific words, phrases relating to the information you are looking for.
  4. Write the words, phrases or web site address on a piece of paper, note book, or bibliography card
  5. You should narrow down your search

Employ the following strategies to search for information on the internet:

Step 1
Open your web browser- Internet explorer, Cometbird, opera, Mozilla Firefox or Yahoo. This is illustrated in the picture below.
