INFORMATION TRANSMISSION

12.1.5. Making representations- symbols, drawings etc

Our ancestors used to store, data and information in form of symbols, diagrams etc on walls, rocks surfaces etc.  And in the present day such diagrams called pictograms. E.g. Hospital signs, red cross signs, Road crossing signs etc

 

 

Problems of the ancient methods of transmitting data/information

 The ancient methods for transmitting data and information had some problems which affected their use by the ancient people. Some of these problems are:

  1. The methods cannot process large amount of data/information
  2. The methods cannot o ststore large amount of data/information
  3. The method cannot be used tore data/information for long periods
  4. The methods cant be used to transfer data/information over long distances.

12.2. MODERN METHODS OF TRANSMITTING INFORMATION

The information transmission gadgets of our ancestors or ancient periods have their problems or limitations as stated earlier. These limitations forced man to develop new and efficient methods or equipment's for the recording/storage and transmission of data/information. Some of the equipments or gadgets that have been developed during the electronic age are as follows:

      1. Paper or printed materials -books, magazines etc
      2. Radio
      3. Telegraph
      4. Telephone
      5. Fax
      6. Television
      7. Satellite
      8. Computers
      9. Internet
