11.2.2. Pascaline

Pascaline machine was invented by a French Blaise Pascal. Pascal developed the calculating machine and gave it to his father who uses it to calculate taxes. The gadget consisted of six to eight gears.

11.2.3. Leibniz Stepped Drum-Stepped-Reckoner >

Gottfried Wilheim, a German developed the Stepped-Reckoner in 1673. The design of the machine was based on Pascal's gear- mechanism driven machine. The machine was used for performing additions, subtraction, and multiplication.

 

 

11.2.4. Difference Engine

Charles Babbage invented the "Difference engine" in 1822. Difference engine was later on modified into another machine called "Analytic engine. Analytic engine was as large as a house and had six steam engines to run the engine. Difference engine is the first computer to store data and information.

 

         

11.2.5. Jacquard Loom- The Punched Card Technology

 

A Frenchman, Jacquard Joseph Marie, introduced punched card technology in 1801. Jacquard invented punched cards. Jacquard device consisted of a tape of loom for weaving cloth and punched cards. The punched cards were used for storing data used in weaving clothes.
